password
a string of characters used in conjunction with an account, to gain access to a resource on a computer or network.
password type
'password type' refers to the character set that is used to construct the password.
password generator© (full) defines (3) types of passwords:
alpha numeric - alpha numeric passwords use the following character set.

character - in addition to the alpha numeric characters.

passwords created with the standard character.keyfile character set use the following characters.

phrase - passwords created from phrases use the following character set.

abcdefghikklmnopqrstuvwxyz
example: the phrase "four score and seven years ago" yields the following password. FSaSyag
password length
password length refers to the number of characters in the password.
example: Abc123
has a length of 6
password padding
password padding refers to the practice of adding integers or characters to a password created from a phrase. The chart below shows the password 'FSaSyag' with password padding enabled.

account type
account type refers to the useage of the password.password generator© (lite) defines (2) types of accounts, as well as a user defined type.
example: a windows login would have the account type set to user
example: a firewall which required an account to run as a service would be set to application
example: a web site login would have the account type set to other
                  note: when specifying 'other' you are asked to enter a user definition for account type.
example: a web site login would might specify website as the account type
account name
account name refers to the name of the account this password is assigned to.
refernce the examples above.
example: a windows login might be named web-user
example: an application might use the name of the application firewall_login
example: a web site login might use the name of the site www.r-i-software.com
encryption (learn more) about encryption.
the process of rendering information unintelligible to all but it's intended receipient or user.
encryption key (learn more) about encryption keys.
in it's simplest form, the key which unlocks the encrypted file.
Question: keyfile
Answer: A keyfile contains the decryption key which is used to encrypt and read account (.acct) files. Keyfiles have the .kf file extension.
